BoP BKG Extractor Info:
The extractor spins frames either FD or ¾ manually. It works fine without going at extreme speed, but it takes time and warm honey boxes stored in the back of the car with the windows up will help.
The handle that you turn to spin the frames will be inclined to undo on the 3 frame extractor unless you spin the handle anti-clockwise. But technically it does not matter which way you spin it. Most people would de-cap their frames then spin them on one side, turn over and spin them again on the other side. As described above some warmth is good for the honey to flow and if the weather is cool overnight you could try storing honey in your house or in a warm room.
There are two nuts that can be undone and the whole internal gubbins can then withdraw that makes cleaning easy afterward. If you have access to a waterblaster, a very small cheap one is ideal for cleaning without needing to scrub or scratch. But a soft cloth or soft brush and warm water is just fine too. It is important not to aim a waterblaster into gears nor bearings and please don’t use abrasive or scratching products.
Rental is based on $20 to club funds for use by our members. The pickup is from 1176 Papamoa Beach Road on a Friday and it will be left out on the back porch if we are out at the time you say you will be there. This gives you the weekend to do the spinning and clean up following week and time to drop it back to 1176 Papamoa Beach road by the following Thursday so it is ready for pickup by the next person. We are often diverting the extractor from member to member directly so as to avoid each of you having to trek out to Papamoa and back, but we can’t always arrange that for example: if nobody used the extractor in the week prior.
Payment is ideally cash on collection of the unit. This eventually goes into the same jar used for meeting donations for running expenses. The club is not registered for GST, and no gst is included, but we can make invoices and receipts if needed.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask because I can add it to this page for future people.
